EVFTA and duty on personal parcels
Finland is an EU member, so Vietnam-Finland trade runs under the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which eliminates duty on the large majority of Vietnam-origin goods over its phase-in schedule. For personal care packages, though, the more relevant rule is the EU’s low-value consignment framework, which is changing: historically, parcels under €150 avoided customs duty, but the EU is phasing out that duty-free threshold for all consignments, replacing it with a small flat handling charge per shipment starting mid-2026. Import VAT can still apply below that threshold. We’ll flag the current rule at quote time so there are no surprises on your parcel.

EU Food Import Rules — What Actually Gets Through
This is the part parents ask about most, so here it is plainly. The EU restricts food imports from Vietnam by category, not by a general ban — most dry, processed goods are fine.
Freely shippable
- Dried and processed foods: instant noodles, dried rice noodles, vermicelli, dried fruit, confectionery
- Coffee and tea — a top request category, always welcome
- Bottled sauces: fish sauce, soy sauce, chili sauce (pack to prevent leakage on the long transit)
- Dried seafood: dried squid, dried fish, dried shrimp
Banned outright by EU rule
- All meat and meat-derived products from Vietnam — this includes pork floss (ruốc), beef jerky, dried sausages, and any processed meat, regardless of packaging
- Fresh dairy products
- Fresh eggs
- Live fish and fresh seafood (frozen seafood is permitted)
Needs paperwork
- Any plant product (tea, dried fruit, spices) technically requires a phytosanitary certificate from Vietnam’s Plant Protection Department for full compliance — for small personal parcels this is rarely enforced strictly, but for larger or repeated shipments, ask us about it in advance.
