2. Update frequency: weekly.
3. Tier table: the scale starts around $1.24/gallon = 25% and steps up by roughly +0.25% for each $0.04/gallon, up to 55% at $4.75+/gallon.
4. Applied to: the base transport charge — the rate set by the destination’s DHL zone.

How to reduce your DHL shipping cost when the surcharge is high

You cannot control fuel prices, but you can still optimise what you pay DHL:

1. Consolidate shipments Instead of sending several small parcels, combine them into one larger shipment. The surcharge is charged on the base rate, and the per-unit base rate usually falls as weight goes up.

2. Watch the weekly trend DHL updates the rate every week. If a shipment is not urgent, you can wait for a cheaper week. The gap is not small: in 2026 the first week of April sat near 39% while early June reached 48.75% — almost ten points on the same base rate.

3. Match the service to the need If you do not need the fastest option, DHL Economy Select (3–7 days) carries a lower base charge than Express Worldwide, which shrinks the absolute surcharge you pay.
